From ancient times, India was the source of nearly all the world's known diamonds, among which the Golconda diamonds are known for some of the world's most magnificent diamonds. Golconda Fort, situated in the eastern part of modern Hyderabad, was the seat of the Golconda Sultanate, and used to house an important diamond trading industry, thus Golconda diamonds became synonymous with Golconda itself.
